Church Merger Leads to a New Future

Two churches in Madison, WI came to a shared vision for ministry together and so they federated into one. The site of one church was turned into Wisconsin’s most environmentally sustainable multi-family building which was also built with 100% equity financing. That building opened in May 2025.

The merged church, Common Grace, engaged in the RootedGood Good Futures Accelerator course which helped them listen deeply to their neighborhood and imagine a new future that now includes a new community center and 26 units of workforce housing in their current location. The new buildings will open in fall 2026.

Threshold Sacred Development and Threshold Builds is their development, architecture, and build partner.

They tell their story in this beautiful film by Big Dog Little Bed productions. This film was created for the Thriving Congregations Coordination Program, which is conducted by Leadership Education at Duke Divinity and funded by Lilly Endowment Inc.
